Who
Is Del Van Dyke?
Straight
from the mans mouth!
Q:
How long have you been doing comedy?
A:
I started comedy back in the early 80's, the open mic scene
in San Francisco. I decided to take Jim Richardsons comedy workshop
to develop my skills, (I highly recommend taking a workshop
for any aspiring comedian).
Q:
Who are some of your comedy influences?
A:
Of course, Richard Pryor, but he's on everyone's list. The more
I got into comedy, I realized that he was such a genius, that
there was no material left to talk about. Steve Martin,
George Carlin, and Bill Cosby were also big influences.
Q:
What is your favorite aspect of the comedy lifestyle?
A:
The positive energy I bring to people when I see the joy and
laughter in their faces as they enjoy something coming from
me, and being able to relate to an audience full of strangers
like we have a lot in common.
Q:
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A:
I will still be doing stand-up comedy, hopefully at the level
of the mega-comedians that are enjoying the good fortune of
having sitcoms and movies.
Q:
What keeps you going in comedy?
A:
Family and friends. Your family is your ground, and your main
support. Without their love, it would be hard to keep traveling
to different locations. Having them believe in you keeps you
positive and believing in yourself.
Q:
What made you decide to teach a comedy workshop?
A:
I've always been a coach. I've coached and helped other comedians
through the years, and I decided to organize a way to help newcomers
take the first steps into the comedy world. Stand up is a desire,
and all comics have that desire. New comics need a helping hand
to take those first steps, and a veteran comic like myself is
happy to help them realize if they have the desire.
Q:
What message would you like to send to your fans?
A: Keep supporting comedy, of course. Be open minded about comics,
and BUY MY MERCHANDISE! And please, stop asking me "Do
I really make a living at this?" Without true comedy fans
or an audience, it would always be a lifetime of open mics!
